Getting started
Create your account
Opening a Zold account takes a few minutes and one passkey.
Open the app at zoldhq.com/app and choose Open your account.
Step 1 — Tell us where you live
Zold asks three things before anything else:
- Country of residence.
- Citizenship — add every one you hold. A dual national is checked on both.
- Are you a US citizen, a Green Card holder, or a US tax resident? Companies are also asked whether the entity is incorporated in the US or has a US owner of 25% or more.
These answers decide which account you can have. Most residents of the EEA, the United Kingdom and Switzerland get the full account. Residents of other countries get an account wherever our euro issuer will serve them. Zold is not available to US persons, to residents or citizens of sanctioned countries, or in countries no partner serves. If that applies to you, the app tells you at this step, before you create anything. See Supported countries.
Answer the US question carefully. A "yes" closes the account path regardless of where you live, and the answer is recorded.
Step 2 — Set up your passkey
A passkey is the key to your account. It lives in your phone's or computer's secure hardware and is unlocked with Face ID, Touch ID, Windows Hello or your device PIN. There is no password.
Your passkey is not only how you sign in. It is an owner of your smart wallet. Payments are signed by it, and Zold cannot replace it. Keep the device safe and set up recovery as soon as your account is open — see Security and recovery.
If your passkey syncs through iCloud Keychain, Google Password Manager or a password manager, it follows you to your other devices. If it does not sync, losing the device means going through recovery. Check which kind you have.
Step 3 — Your smart wallet is created
As soon as the passkey is registered, Zold creates your smart wallet on the Base network. This is free and takes a few seconds. Your wallet address is fixed from this moment on.
Step 4 — Connect Monerium
Your IBAN is issued by Monerium, the e-money institution behind EURe. You connect (or open) a Monerium account and activate your IBAN with one passkey confirmation. Until you do, you can look around but cannot receive or send money.
Continue to Connect Monerium and activate your IBAN.
